UCPartners introduced the asset management approach to professionalise the design-build-operate process across the asset life cycle. Yield optimisation in the operate phase is key to realise the original business case and profit from market opportunities.

Challenge
To win projects in a highly competitive market aggressive business cases are made. In these business cases assumptions are made about the build phase (engineering, procurement of wind turbines and construction), but also about the operate phase where a certain output must be realised and maintained across the life span of the wind turbine (10-15 years or more). Operational excellence is needed to maximise yield under given wind conditions and minimise operating expense.

Approach
The asset management model provides an integrated framework to analyse and manage all key processes around fixed assets. This model was adapted to fit the wind business and is depicted below.

  

The model is further developed and detailed to guide both organisational development (work processes, competency model, worker skills) and the ICT-architecture needed for managing the information flows and decision support systems.
