Theo Fens

I was a co-founder of UCPartners in the Spring of 2005. In addition to being a partner at UCPartners and doing consultancy and interim management jobs for our clients, I am engaged in a part-time capacity as a Senior Research Fellow in the Economics of Infrastructures Section of the Technology, Policy and Management Faculty at Delft University of Technology. As such, I lecture and research energy markets, publish regularly about developments in the energy and utilities world, e.g. the ongoing deregulation of energy markets, emissions management, or legislation and its impact on the organisation and operation of energy companies. I consider the combination of research and consultancy ideal to maintain and further develop my expertise in strategic and tactical consultancy activities in the energy and utilities world. I hold a degree in electrical engineering and a PhD in experimental physics from the Faculty of Applied Physics of Delft University of Technology.

During the former 30 years of my professional career, I have held positions in electrical engineering, fundamental and applied electronics research at KPN Research, and in application software development for petroleum engineering, working as an E&P petrophysicist at Shell International. I moved to the energy and utility team of Capgemini in 2001, where I met Chris IJsbrandy. While working for Capgemini, I led various strategic research projects for Nuon, APX, EPZ, Essent and Eneco. At Capgemini I was lucky to work with an excellent team of energy specialists, with whom we developed ‘Trends in Energy’, an ongoing research project, encompassing a congress and the publication of a booklet in which an analysis of and vision about the energy and utility industry was presented annually.
